Dear Elected Representative,

America’s immigration system is in urgent need of reform — and Congress has both the responsibility and the power to act.

I write to you on behalf of We the People, a collective advocating human rights, and a commonsense immigration reform. We come together in response to systemic abuses — from unlawful detentions and due process violations to skyrocketing enforcement budgets and mass deportations that devastate families across the country.

We urge you to support a long-overdue and pragmatic step: updating the immigration registry date. Since its creation in 1929, the registry has only been amended four times — most recently in 1986 under bipartisan leadership and President Ronald Reagan. Updating the registry again would provide relief and stability to countless long-term residents who have built lives in our communities. But this action alone is not enough. We also call on you to support the following critical bills:

● H.R.2366 – American Families United Act These measures embody our nation’s values of fairness and family unity.

Today, more than 22 million Americans live in mixed status households, including:

● 4.9 million U.S. citizen children with at least one undocumented parent

● 1.7 million U.S. citizens with undocumented spouses

Outdated and punitive laws like the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act (IIRIRA) prevent these families from staying together, forcing U.S. citizens to live in fear of separation. These laws are not just unjust — they are un-American.

Together, these three measures could provide a pathway to legalization for up to 8.5 million undocumented individuals, including Dreamers, TPS holders, and longtime residents with deep ties to their communities. Reforming our immigration system also makes economic sense. Research shows that doubling immigration could increase our economy to $47 trillion by 2050, compared to $29 trillion under current policy. Immigration is not just a humanitarian issue — it’s an economic imperative. We urge you to:

● Support updating the registry date (e.g., H.R. 4696)

● Support H.R.2366 ● Work across the aisle for meaningful, bipartisan immigration reform

These actions will help reunite families, boost our economy, and restore faith in our nation’s commitment to justice and opportunity. We would welcome the chance to speak with your office further. Thank you for your leadership and service.

Sincerely,
